abstract="The 386-bed Memorial Hospital, Colorado Springs, CO, spent more than $1 million on security improvements in 1999--a portion of it as a direct result of two unrelated murders of hospital employees during the year that occurred within three months of each other. In addition, the hospital has requested the services of a workplace violence expert and currently is considering filling the majority of security positions with its own employees rather than with contract officers who predominantly have served the campus previously. (For details on what four other hospitals have done in response to murders on their premises, see the recent articles and reports in the November and December 1999 issues of this newsletter.)<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
