abstract="A general approach is presented for determining the mean time between failures, mean up time, mean down time and availability of a system made up of a number of interconnected subsystems, for each of which the mean up time and mean down time are known. The approach is based on the enumeration of the system's success paths and on the determination of the system's working boundary states.
