abstract="This paper puts forward the inverse truncated normal distribution as a failure model for systems that suffer an initial high rate of wear and failure. This type of failure may be due to sudden stress, change in environment, weak spots, technological defects or improper usage. The paper fits the model to failure data of high speed cutting tools. Hypothesizing the inverse truncated normal distribution for these failure data, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test shows that the model is accepted.<p />",
