abstract="This paper describes a study which investigated those aspects of the design of a system that will affect the safety of divers deployed from a new diver-support ship. The way in which diving operations will be carried out, and the method by which the support ship will be held on-position above the work site on the sea bed, are outlined. The functions of constituent items, and their logical relationship, are described and the basis of the study is stated. The requirements for the reliability model are set out and the method which was developed to meet these needs is given. The results of the study and the conclusions drawn are summarised.<p />",
