abstract="A methodology for the study of the interaction between maintenance and reliability of equipments is presented. A field study designed to provide maintenance and breakdown data is described. Results of the analysis of these data are presented, together with relevant hazard and operability studies. In particular, the effect of a planned maintenance regime on the reliability of the equipment is investigated using trend analysis. In addition, availability and cost benefits are examined. The question of risk to the patient is also assessed.<p />",
