abstract="In recent years, research into gene x environment (GXE) interactions has provided a better understanding of a number of complex diseases including cancer and diabetes. Furthermore, it has opened up the possibility of screening programmes to promote primary prevention and public education campaigns. Recently, psychiatric researchers have also begun to investigate GXE interactions. This review describes the literature on GXE interactions in psychiatry and its potential contribution to future understanding of mental disorders.<p />",
