abstract="There has been much recent interest in the reliability field in the application of proportional hazards modelling. The technique is, however, in the early stages of application in reliability studies, and no really satisfactory examples of its application to reliability data are to be found in the open literature. The current paper deals with how to apply proportional hazards modelling in practice to reliability data. It is based on the authors' extensive experience of applying the technique in a range of industries and to both hardware and software. It discusses, with practical examples, the difficulties of analysis and interpretation of results for both repairable and non-repairable systems. The importance of special features in reliability data is stressed throughout.<p />",
