abstract="In this paper we use a Markovian model to derive an expression for the plant hazard rate of a plant equipped with a single-channel protective system. Our derivation properly incorporates the effects of the demand rate and of the channel repair rate.It is shown that within the typical range of system failure rate, demand rate and proof test interval, the plant hazard rate is not very sensitive to significant variations of the repair rate. A numerical comparison of our results with those from other equivalent expressions suggested in the literature is presented, and it is shown that some of those expressions can be obtained as particular cases of ours.<p />",
