abstract="A Gasunie gas compressor plant has been analysed in co-operation with Systems Reliability Service (UK Atomic Energy Authority). Fault trees have been constructed, failure data of the compressors involved have been analysed and data of other components have been obtained from the SRS Data Bank. The availability of the system was calculated from the constructed fault trees by means of combination and by computer simulation. An evaluation has been made of the costs of improving the availability of the system and its benefits. The required number of spare compressors could be estimated.<p />",
