abstract="In December 1988 the Construction Product Directive (CPD) was adopted by the Council of the European Communities. It will not be transformed into national legislation of the member states until June 1991.Amongst others, fire safety in buildings is one of the essential requirements of the CPD. Based on the objectives of the essential requirement 'Fire Safety', a proposal for a comprehensive fire safety concept for buildings had been developed as a framework for future European legislation.<p />",
