abstract="Computer modeling has reached the capability of application to real fire engineering problems. Two illustrative examples are given in this paper. 1. The analysis of the fire at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas (November 21, 1980) shows how the Harvard Computer Fire Model (CFC 5.3) was used to show safe and unsafe constructions. 2. The analysis of a fictitious fire in a building shows how modern fire modeling and toxicity data can be combined to predict safe occupant escape. <p></p>",
