abstract="Abstract The experience of the West Branch Child Abuse Council indicates that a community development approach to the problem of child abuse can be effective in involving individuals and community groups in mobilizing resources, supporting change, and creating a climate of awareness, concern, and action. The activities of a local child abuse council in North Central Pennsylvania are described and evaluated to illustrate the organization and development of the council over a five‐year period. Attention is given to the actors, processes, strategies, and problems involved in the project. Some of the broader community development issues raised by this case study are also discussed.<p />",
