abstract="Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a widespread problem that has been associated with a variety of negative health outcomes. There has been a call for prevention of first occurrences of CSA. Public health provides a unique framework for conceptualizing and implementing these prevention efforts. This article explains a model of the public health approach to prevention and illustrates the applicability of this model to CSA. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention convened a panel of experts to advise the agency about raising awareness of CSA as a public health problem.
