abstract="The use of new semiconductor technologies in modern control and indicating equipment has led to many new and improved performance features. Both the present state of electronic components and the upgrading of the terminal stations through new characteristic features prompt the question on whether and how the very high demands placed on the operating reliability can be met. The service life of the many and complex components and their climatic dependence, the electromagnetic compatibility, and the increased demands on &quot;fail safety&quot; and security against sabotage pose enormous problems for the development engineers, which they are expected to solve in a very limited time and in a way which is economically acceptable. With a series of coordinated individual measures, it is possible nowadays to achieve an operating reliability unthought of before. The paper illustrates these measures.<p />",
