abstract="The issue of rise in the threat to aviation by suicide bombers is discussed, in relation to the midair destruction of two Russian aircraft by explosives. The destruction showed that terrorists were able to easily breach the post September 11 security of a modern airport facility. Russia's Federal Security Service, which is in charge of the investigation, said traces of hexogen were found in the wreckage of both aircraft. The finding supported the leading theory that suicide bombers gained entry to the aircraft.<p />",
