abstract="To prevent gas accidents such as explosions, a microcomputer-controlled gas-shutoff system has been developed. The system detects the gas flow rate through a flow sensor and the microcomputer judges whether the gas flow pattern is normal or not. If it is not normal, the computer operates to shut off the gas. Consequently, the system could prevent almost all gas accidents, including gas suicides. As the hardware is an integral unit of the gas meter, it is easy to install it to existing houses. Various components are described. By using these components, the system would operate for more than ten years with a long-life lithium battery.<p />",
