abstract="The incidence of metro train fire which killed at least 125 people, on February 28, 2003, in Taegu, South Korea is discussed. The Taegu blaze is thought to have been started deliberately by Kim Dae Han, who told to police that he was trying to commit suicide. The fire rapidly took hold, producing dense clouds to toxic smoke that is likely to have caused most of the deaths. A report on the incidence suggested that the doors could not be opened, that the station power supply automatically cut out, leaving the station in darkness, and that a second loaded train drew alongside the burning one side after the fire had started.<p />",
