abstract="An inorganic intumescent coating that could be used on naval vessels was developed for the fire protection of GRP. This coating only releases water vapor when it is exposed to fire, so it is safer for personnel than organic coatings. This coating was tested for environmental stability and flammability properties in a quarter-scale room test at the David Taylor Research Center in Annapolis, Maryland. The tests' results met the naval requirements.<p />",
