abstract="An alarming increase in the emergency in-comings of patients suffering from substance abuse as a method of achieving an autolitice attempt has been found. A survey was taken in a group of 581 patients who made 620 presentations to Emergency Room of Saint John Emergency Hospital in Iasi for self-harm by substance abuse. The most frequently resort to this type of self harm, are the urban, often unemployed women. They prefer the ingestion of drugs, especially those of benzodiazepine class, and they often turn to this act amid underlying depressive syndrome and alcohol consumption.<p />",
