abstract="The authors report the results of urine analysis in experiments with drinking different higher aliphatic alcohols (congeners) and mixtures of them. The excretion of higher alcohols in direct form seems to be a diffusion process and thus reflects on the blood concentrations. Conjugation to glucuronic acid plays a greater role the longer the carbon-chain of the respective alcohol is. As all the consumed higher alcohols (including the isoamyl alcohols) can be detected in urine samples of the consumer, urine analysis may give additional information regarding the nature of the consumed beverage.<p />",
