abstract="During two months samples were taken from 320 injured persons involved in traffic accidents who had been admitted to a Danish hospital. It was obvious that more male than female drivers having high blood alcohol concentrations are involved in accidents; an accumulation at weekends and during the night is also observed. Single accidents with high blood alcohol values are overrepresented. The police had investigated 129 cases, however, in 109 cases the statement: 'not under the influence of alcohol' was made. On the other hand, in our material 76 persons (23%) had a blood alcohol concentration of more than 0.5(per mille) which is a remarkable discrepancy between the results of police investigation and the positive blood alcohol values detected in our traffic accident cases.<p />",
