abstract="This report describes a method for the subjective measurement of real driving performance to show differences in driving behaviour when subjects are under influence of moderate levels of ethyl alcohol or placebo. The administration of alcohol was carried out under doubleblind conditions in a dose of 0.45 g per kg bodyweight to 10 healthy male volunteers. Blood alcohol levels (BAL) of approximately 50 mg% during the experiments were expressed as saliva alcohol levels (SAL) in order to diminish traumatic factors by using a noninvasive sampling technique. Analyses of experimental records showed a statistically significant impairment of performance at moderate alcohol levels. The primary goal of this study was to provided a real-life setting for actual performance studies in establishing the causal relationship between the use of CNS depressants and performance decrements.<p />",
