abstract="A rapid method for an enzymatic and gas chromatographic microdetermination of ethanol from only 20 (mu)l whole blood or serum is described. The coefficient of variation for the precision of the method ranges from 1.1 to 4.8%. The results of the microdetermination correlated well with those of the macrodetermination as reference method. In a resorption test with 10 healthy volunteers we demonstrated the usefulness of the micromethods for a close control of resorption and elimination of ethanol. In emergency medicine the concentration of ethanol can be determined with only 20(mu)l of capillary blood in less than 20 minutes by use of the ADH-micromethod.<p />",
