abstract="The rate of alcohol elimination after peroral and intravenous administration of ethanol in Macaca speciosa monkeys (two males and three females) was investigated. This rate was 156 and 128 mg/kg/h after peroral and i.v. administration, respectively. No significant difference was found between the sexes. The degree of intoxication was lower in females than in males, the blood alcohol level and intoxication being closely related in females but not in males. The absorption was slower in males than in females, especially after administration of large doses of alcohol per os. The lethal blood alcohol level was found to be about 5(per mille), which is the same as found in man. These experiments show that the rate of alcohol metabolism in the monkeys is similar to that in man.<p />",
