abstract="In a combination field comprising 9 cells, each of which contained 5 subjects, doses of 25 and 50 mg trazodone as well as 0.6 and 1.25 g alcohol/kg bodyweight singly as well as combined were given orally and their effect investigated on the kinetics and activity of both substances. According to our experiments on healthy subjects alcohol has a definite effect on the speed of absorption of trazodone; in low doses this takes the form of an acceleration and in higher doses of a retardation. Apart from this trazodone does not alter the renal elimination of alcohol. Due to technical difficulties it was not possible to test whether alcohol had a similar effect on the elimination of trazodone. Based on the results obtained so far the original psychophysical state is changed by trazodone and/or alcohol. The main symptoms are sickness, nausea and sometimes continuous vomiting as well as prolonged tiredness and falling asleep. Associated with this is a reduction in the reaction capacity.<p />",
