abstract="This is a report on the probation control of 435 evaluations of DWI-offenders, performed in 1962-1979 in the superior examination center for problem drivers at University of Saarland in Homburg. By follow-up interviews with traffic authorities the later results of the evaluations and drivers were pursued. The results of this study and of similar investigations of other institutes lead to the conclusion to abstain in future from formulating a test which comprises a behaviour prognosis or statement of suitability concerning DWI-offenders (and other traffic violaters). The specialist for psychological selection tests should emphatically turn to the more humane tasks of counseling and therapy and should in the test certificate only reply to the question which of the different measures (kind of driver improvement or therapy) he considers useful. Restrictive measures, also required for controlling drunken driving, should be prepared and performed only by official authorities based on clear regulations for suspension of drivers' licences. In consequence a better general preventive effect could be expected.<p />",
