abstract="A blood sample of a 58-year old man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs was examined by means of immunological methods and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The benzodiazepine estazolam, which was detected is not available on the German market. The quantitative analysis after solid-phase -extraction using cyanopropyl phases and high performance liquid chromatography revealed a serum concentration of 732 ng/ml. Since neither alcohol nor other central acting substances could be detected, the signs of impairment can be traced back to an estazolam overdose.<p />",
