abstract="Twenty eight substances relevant for congener analysis, among them some breakdown products are reliably detectable by means of the Headspace GC/MS technology in both the scan and SIM modes. This is the basis for a new approach to verify the relevance of additional markers when determining types of drinks and when estimating the time of drinking. Particularly the quantification of breakdown products may give additional information as to the start and duration of drinking which is shown for i-butanol and i- butyraldehyde. Since the quantification of methanol by means of the Headspace GC/MS does not provide a sufficient level of accuracy, the known method of gas chromatography with constant-pressure feed, packed column and FID should always be used for verification. Consequently a number of relevant congeners are detected by employing two different methods.<p />",
