abstract="Drinking experiments with different higher aliphatic alcohols in 40% ethanol and with ethanol alone were carried out. In the presence of higher alcohols the peak of the blood-ethanol concentration is lower than in the experiments with ethanol and shifts to later times. This effect is the more striking, the longer the carbon chain of the alcohol and the higher its concentration is. The congener content of the common alcoholic beverages probably will not cause relevant changes in the blood-ethanol concentration.<p />",
