abstract="An event is serious (FDA MedWatch definition) when the patient outcome is: death; is life-threatening; requires hospitalisation; results in disability or congenital anomaly; or requires intervention to prevent permanent impairment or damage. First published case report: Drug overdose  A 14-year-old girl developed multiorgan failure due to intoxication following an overdose of thioctic acid [alpha-lipoic acid] in a suicide attempt [time to reaction onset not stated]; subsequently she died.The girl, with a prior history of a suicide attempt, ingested thioctic acid. She had vomited. Around 6pm, she was found unconscious and having convulsions. Empty medication boxes containing acetaminophen [paracetamol], norfenefrine and thioctic acid were discovered. She was given diazepam, intubated and ventilated. A sinus rhythm was documented. Her oxygen saturation deteriorated.
