abstract="Does the availability of natural spaces affect our sense of well-being? Can land development lead to depression and suicide? To answer this question, I regressed the rate of suicides in each state on the percentage of land that is developed. To control for other factors related to the quality of the physical environment, I included the percentage of sunny days and emissions from fossil fuels. Unexpectedly, states with a higher percentage of developed land had a statistically significant lower rate of suicide.<p />",
