abstract="Details are given of the sexual assaults dealt with by this laboratory, with particular mention of the increasing number of rape cases submitted each year. The contribution of a forensic biologist to the investigation of alleged rapes is summarized. The laboratory's sexual assault index is explained using examples of three series of linked rapes recognized by this method.
