abstract="<p>Mallet finger injuries are frequent in football and are difficult to treat during the competitive season. Minor digit injuries that do not have bony components are often treated with a reinforced stack-type splint. Skin care may be a problem and needs to be monitored closely by the training staff. If the splint cannot be tolerated by the player because of the demands of his/her position, percutaneous pins have been utilized as an internal splint. We have used the largest pins possible and always use 2 pins.
