abstract="The review covers developments since the previous Fire and Polymers symposium which are of commercial significance The polyurethane foam industry is currently undergoing serious changes because of the banning of some chlorofluorocarbon blowing agents. Moreover, the banning of pentabromodiphenyl ether as a flame retardant requires finding alternative means for avoiding scorch (thermal damage during production exotherms) We discuss recent insights into the scorch mechanism in relation to the choice of flame retardant.<p />",
