abstract="The movement of dangerous materials poses potential health and safety hazards to many citizens along routes of travel. The purpose of this paper is to identify the type and frequency of hazardous materials being transported over Virginia highways. Analyses of field interviews with 7,591 truckers to determine type of hazardous cargoes, their orgins and destinations, and the compliance with federal and state placarding regulations are presented. <br><br>RESULTS of the study indicate that approximately 3.6 percent of all trucks on Virginia highways contain hazardous materials, most of them carry flammable liquids.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
