abstract="The Connecticut Department of Transportation in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration installed a frangible-tube, energy-absorbing bridge barrier system. The experimental barrier absorbs the impact forces of a colliding vehicle by using fragmenting aluminum tubes. This paper details the construction of the experimental barrier on a Connecticut bridge having concrete parapet walls.<p />",
