abstract="Observation of numerous roads in bituminous concrete made some years ago in Belgium as well as in other countries has shown the excellent qualities of the technique of chipping (sprinkling) bituminous concrete. The success of this technique requires, however, sustained attention on the part of the contractor in order that this surface treatment be applied according to the recommendations formulated above. The chipping of bituminous concrete offers numerous technical advantages, especially regarding adherence- and therefore the safety of the automobilist- and a reduction in water spray at the rear of the vehicles. As for the economic advantages (use of local and possibly polishable stones in the bituminous mixture and reduction in the consumption of public lighting), they have been noted above. On the other hand, the price of chippings is relatively low in the total moderate cost of chipped bituminous concrete.<p />",
