abstract="Transporting bicycles on a tow bar mounted bike carrier is much more convenient than on the car's roof rack and is therefore becoming increasingly popular. However, very few tow bars are actually designed to cope with this different kind of load. Therefore, it is merely a matter of time before the first tow balls break off, spilling the carrier and the bikes onto the road or motorway.
