abstract="A research project commissioned and supported by the German Insurers Accident Research (UDV) and carried out by the Chair of Engineering and Traffic Psychology (LIV) and the Institute of Automotive Engineering (ITF) at the Technical University of Braunschweig, has summarized the findings of current research on the subject of distraction by information and communication systems (ICS). The aim was to identify the main kinds of distraction from the perspective of road safety as well as to develop proposals for possible solutions and to describe the requirements for further research. The focus was also on applying meta-analysis to quantify the effects of ICS with regard to changes in driving behavior. This makes it possible to evaluate to what extent the different types of usage of ICS, compared with one another, have an influence on driving behavior.
