abstract="Guns are abundant in the United States. It is estimated that about half of American homes have a firearm and that there are about 90 million firearms in civilian hands. Although firearm accidents contribute to only a small part of all accidental deaths, the victims of firearm accidents are often young. During the summer of 1971, a study of the epidemiology of gunshot wounds in children was conducted at Detroit General Hospital. This article presents the details and results of that investigation.",
