abstract="Panama, country of traffic between drugs producers and consumers, generating emergent economy, culture of violence and maltreatment in the family and community, being vulnerable children and adolescents due long term exposition to maltreatment, presenting risk behaviors such as drugs use and abuse. To determine independence or relationship between drug use and abuse and maltreatment during childhood and adolescence in university students of an university in panama city. Quantitative study, transeccional correlacional design, stratified sampling 377 students of of 12 faculty by proportional distribution, using &quot;drugs use and abuse and adverse experience during childhood&quot; questionnaire. The test chi square independence test proved no independence between drug use and abuse with maltreatment, highlighting sexual abuse during childhood and adolescence. Maltreatment indicators for drug use and abuse were: mistreated mother, separation and divorce of parents of the student, the influence of university student peer consumers.
