abstract="When parents are unavailable for their children, or simply do not know what to do when a youngster is experiencing an overwhelming stressor, the parent's response, or lack of, can compound the child's psychosocial difficulties. Even though some youngsters overcome the adversity of inadequate parenting, others cannot and consequently experience interpersonal problems, psychological maladjustment and academic difficulties. These youngsters are viewed as being at-risk and sometimes are even in need of crisis intervention. Therapy with children and parents aims to stabilize the family and to strengthen the parent/child attachment. The therapist tries to evoke positive interactions between the parents and child, and to resolve a wide range of emotional, social and behavioral problems.<p />",
