abstract="The study purpose was to examine the effect alcohol abuse/dependence and school experiences have on depression among a nationwide sample of adolescents. A secondary analysis of the 2013 National Survey on Drug Use and Health was conducted. The results of the final multivariable logistic regression model revealed that adolescents who reported having past-year alcohol abuse/dependence and negative school experiences were at increased odds for reporting past-year depression. This study adds to the existing literature by revealing the association of alcohol dependence/abuse, negative school experiences, and adolescent depression above and beyond demographic covariates. Recommendations for future studies are included.<p />",
