abstract="<p>GPs in Scotland have an important role in helping patients curb excessive alcohol consumption, but lessons need to be learnt on the best way to support interventions, say two research reports.12  Scotland introduced a national programme of delivering alcohol brief interventions for heavy drinkers in 2008.
