abstract="Extensive investigations have been made with plain nails in wood-to-wood joints and others with metal, hardboard and plywood side plates using mainly hardwoods having a wide range of strength properties. Variables studied included the effect of direction, nature and duration of loading, moisture content, and single and double shear of nails. Few tests have been made on other connectors. The research indicates a number of gaps in knowledge and some incompatibility with overseas data. It leads to consideration of desirable changes throughout the world in methods of estimating allowable loads of fasteners in structures.<p />",
