abstract="OBJECTIVE To analyze the suicide behavior in patients with severe mental disorders in Hunan Province from 2014 to 2016,in order to provide reference for making policy and delivering services. <br><br>METHODS Information was collected including gender, the onset age,the cause of death obtained from the &quot;National Information System for Psychosis&quot; from 2014 to 2016. Excel 2016 and SPSS 23. 0 software were used for data processing and analysis. <br><br>RESULTS By the end of 2016,there were 401 suicide patients with psychosis registered in Hunan Province, including 220 males ( 54. 86%) and 181 females ( 45. 14%) , accounting for 3. 33% of all deaths. The minimum age of suicide patients was 18 years old, and the oldest was 87 years old, the average life expectancy was (44. 17 ± 14. 72) years. The main disease type was schizophrenia. Suicide patients mainly included the following characteristics: Han nationality(91. 52%),education level was under the primary school(69. 83%),married(55. 61%),farmers(77. 56%),and economic level below the local poverty standard ( 68. 08%). <br><br>CONCLUSION The main characteristics of patients with severe mental disorders which need to prevent of suicide in Hunan Province including:rural population,lower education,rural married women,lower economic level. Effective measures should be established to reduce the risk of suicide.
