abstract="The work reported is an experimental study of total heat radiation from free-burning aviation fuels. Pool fires from 3 to 8 ft in diam were used, and the radiant heat fluxes were measured. The effects of water spray and wind on heat radiation were studied. The horizontal radiation profile of a free-burning fire is reported to be more significant than the vertical profile from a fire-fighting point of view.<p />",
