abstract="Control systems in a vehicle usually are non-adaptable logic devices. While a different yet fixed parameterization allows to produce sporting variants for example, there has thus far been no reliable parameter that offers up-to-date information about the driver type in order to adapt the control devices to the individual driving style. The requirements of such an algorithm for on-line driver type classification are manifold: it is of paramount importance that only the driver dynamics be evaluated; nervous or hectic actions must not be misinterpreted. Moreover, it is important that the requirements can be met by the available standard sensor technology. However, influences such as road friction, uphill/downhill driving and cornering as well as the performance limits of the vehicle must be taken into consideration. The on-line driver type classification presented in this paper yields three parameters on acceleration, braking and cornering behaviour, which provide the relevant control system with a new source of information.   <p>Language: en</p>",
