abstract="This study presents some empirical evidence on the manner in which transportation service to job sites influences the employment potential of low-income workers who inhabit the inner city. In addition, it describes an employment-accessibility model that considers the direct relationship of transportation service and employment characteristics in a manner that permits quantification of the expected benefits in unemployment reduction through a proposed improvement in transportation accessibility. Unlike other studies of a similar nature, this research has demonstrated the feasibility of obtaining estimates of unemployment reduction attributable to proposed accessibility improvements before the implementation of a demonstration program. The implications of these findings are, therefore, of significant importance in evaluating the worth of a capital or operating expenditure for improving transportation accessibility because they will lead to more efficient utilization of resources in the quest for "optimum" transportation improvements. /Author/ {TRID}

Language: en
",
