abstract="The present article represents a review. Its specifics are that it does not present results of studies but, based on various sources, provides an analysis and systematization of modern trends in the transport industry, which determine directions of such studies. Those trends and their consequences for vehicle production and operation were studied by various researchers. Some of the corresponding publications are listed in the References section. However, literary sources do not include any generalization which would allow obtaining complete systematization. Such systematization would allow developers of vehicle maintenance systems to perform full assessment of development results and determine if they comply with the modern trends. With a view to the above, the article considers the main contemporary areas of innovation-driven development of the road transport complex in Russia and the world. They are used to demonstrate the necessity to revise conventional approaches to ensuring technical availability of vehicles and assurance of operation thereof in terms of &quot;technical condition&quot; factor. The most important tendencies in the area of vehicle operation and design are identified, their impact on the area of operation and maintenance of road transport in the immediate future is analyzed.<p /> <p>Language: en</p>",
